Comprehensive Exam

Whereas a dental visit used to focus on treating tooth decay, it has evolved to address dental health as it relates to total health and overall well-being. We are a wellness-centered practice that emphasizes on the prevention of dental disease and the creation and maintenance of a healthy mouth and beautiful smile as part of one’s overall health.

Unlike one-tooth dentistry, comprehensive dental care looks at the interrelationship of the teeth, gums, supporting bone and jaw muscles. These structures of the oral cavity must work in harmony to allow us to speak, chew, and smile for a lifetime.

In our initial exam, we do not simply scan the mouth for cavities and tooth problems. We look at the health of each of the structures contributing to a healthy mouth and educate our patients on ways to achieve and maintain oral health for the rest of their lives.

We put particular emphasis on maintaining and restoring the teeth to their natural form and function while focusing on creating and maintaining a beautiful smile for our patients. When dentistry is done to the highest level, no one should be able to detect that you have had dental work completed. Whether it is the front teeth or the last tooth in the back, We promise to give each patient the same attention to detail and level of care.

Hygiene Care

Fresh Breath and White Teeth Need Help

The team at Boston North Dental Associates in Saugus, MA know proven ways to build new, healthy habits.  Our hygienists are your preventative healthcare specialists. Each member of our team is a Registered Dental Hygienist and participates in frequent continuing education programs; we want to be certain that you receive the highest quality, state-of-the-art care.

We do not think it helps us to keep saying, “You need to brush and floss.” We help instruct and communicate new ideas that will make it easier for you to develop the habits you already know you want to be following—brushing and flossing daily, eating less sugar and more.

We work with you to build a schedule of ongoing care and maintenance that will keep your teeth healthy for your entire lifetime, keep your breath fresh, your heart strong, and your brain sharp.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral Cancer Screening, Saugus, MA
Following a thorough dental cleaning and exam at Boston North Dental Associates, you will notice your dentist and hygienists studying the far corners of your mouth and palpating your neck and chin. We are not performing a relaxing massage, but are conducting one of the most important aspects of your exam; an oral cancer screening.

More than 43,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer this year, 8,000 of which will lose their lives to this devastating disease, according to the Oral Cancer Foundation. Oral cancer is not difficult to diagnose, but there is not a comprehensive program in the U.S. to opportunistically screen for the disease. Therefore, the cancer often is discovered late in its development. Click here to learn more

TMJ / TMD Therapy

Temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are the small, triangular joints that connect the jaw to the skull allowing the mouth to open and close comfortably for a full range of oral function including speaking and chewing. When these joints are strained or damaged TMJ dysfunction (TMD) occurs limiting jaw mobility and causing significant pain. Treatments for TMJ may include any number of options including:

  •  Nightguards for bruxism, teeth grinding and clenching, which can lead to strained TMJ
  •  Equilibration / Occlusal Adjustments
  •  Occlusal Splints

Fluoride for Adults

What is Fluoride?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that helps prevent tooth decay in both children and adults. The World Health Organization reported that “there is clear evidence that long-term exposure to an optimal level of fluoride results in diminishing levels of caries (cavities) in both child and adult populations.”

How Does Fluoride Help Adult Teeth?

Fluoride applied to the surface of teeth has been shown to be as important in fighting adult tooth decay as in strengthening developing teeth in children.
Research suggests that adults who are prone to tooth decay benefit when fluoride is applied to the outside of their teeth (topical fluoride)—from over-the-counter and prescription toothpastes, mouth rinses and professional fluoride treatments.

Fluoride for Childerns

How Will My Children Benefit From Using Fluoride?

By being sure your children have enough fluoride both in their water and through fluoride treatments from their dental team, you are:
  • Giving them a lifetime of stronger and more decay resistant teeth.
  • Helping them avoid the discomfort of dental decay
  • Starting them on a path that will allow them to keep their teeth their entire lives

When is it Most Crucial to Have Fluoride Available for Your Child’s Teeth?

Between the ages of six months and sixteen years, your children’s teeth are developing, but they’re not as hard and strong as they could be with fluoride treatments. During this time parents need to be very vigilant about providing the right amount of fluoride.
Your child can get fluoride from over-the-counter and prescription toothpastes, mouth rinses and professional fluoride treatments.
